Fall fun in Long Beach

Fall is coming! Maybe you can sense it in the air in the morning, that brisk crispness that only means Fall has arrived. Pumpkin spice lattes don’t have to be your thing in order to enjoy the beautiful Autumn season, especially with a young family. Maybe you’ve seen your friends and family post amazing pictures of their children enjoying all things Fall but you aren’t sure where to start.

A great starting point for families of all ages and sizes is a pumpkin patch! Many spots not only offer a place to pick out the perfect pumpkin, but offer activities like petting zoos, bounce houses, and hay rides. Pa’s Pumpkin Patch is a family favorite and one of the most popular spots in Long Beach. They will be opening Friday October 1st this year, offering great fun for the whole family. Pony rides, petting zoo and a snack bar are just a few extras they have to offer. Places like Pa’s Pumpkin Patch are wonderful for the whole family because there is a little something for everyone. If you have a young baby you can still get out and enjoy the fresh air and let them experience the touch and feel of this new world while bigger kids can enjoy being active with the hands-on fun.

Maybe you have just been wanting to get out of town. Fall is the perfect time to head out of the city and go on a weekend adventure! One great adventure could be to plan a weekend out in the San Bernardino National Forest. Enjoy sightseeing in places like Big Bear Lake, take in all the colors of the changing trees. If you wanted to enjoy a babymoon or a postpartum getaway, head up to Big Bear Lake, then on your way home stop in the Oak Glen area and enjoy one of the apple picking orchards. Pick some fresh apples to take home and make some pie or applesauce! A great u-pick orchard is WillowBrook Apple Farm. Family owned and operated, this farm offers apple picking, apple cider presses and educational tours. They open after labor day each year through around the first week of November. A weekend out enjoying the beauty of Fall, the lower temperatures and fresh air can be just the reset you need.

Autumn is  a wonderful time to get out for bike rides, walks and hikes. One of the best ways to enjoy the outdoors whether you are newly pregnant, due any day, or a brand new parent is to enjoy a walk with a friend. Call a friend and meet up at one of the many walking trails in Long Beach, Seal Beach or Signal Hill. Walking is great for the lymphatic system, the respiratory system, and vascular systems. It isn’t too stressful on the body and is why doulas, midwives and doctors all recommend daily walks for their clients. Of course every situation is different so be sure to talk to your health care provider about what kind of physical activity you are planning before you head out. And don’t forget to stay hydrated!

Even though the temperatures in Southern California aren’t quite as “Fall-like” as other places in the US, there are lots of ways to invoke and enjoy the coziness of this season. What is your favorite fall activity to do in or around Long Beach?
